MISSION, VISION, VALUES: WHAT’S THE POINT?

Thought Leadership

How would you describe your company to a friend or potential employee? Can you and your employees recite your Mission Statement? These questions are easily answered if your business has clear Mission, Vision & Values (MVV).

Your Mission statement is your business’s purpose and reason for existing. It identifies your WHY. People who are aligned with your mission will be happier employees.

Your Vision is about your company’s future. Once you achieve your mission, this is where your company, your community and the world will be as a result of your business.

Your Values are the guiding principles that define your culture and your business’s way of life. Use them as your moral compass and make sure your employees align with them.

MVV’s are crucial in helping shape an organizational strategy. Once these are created, they not only help your team understand your company’s goals but also help you hire and fire based on your values. Drafting MVV’s that are long and elaborate will prove to be unsuccessful (mainly because they won’t be remembered!).

When creating the MVV’s, it’s important to keep the following tips in mind:

  • Be succinct
  • Keep your wording precise

Without MVVs, your company has no direction, no accountability, no plan. So if you want to succeed (and don’t we all) it’s definitely something you can’t be without.
